Summer Grazing

It has been a HOT week and seems no being on the farm loves that, but many just adjust activities for the weather.

For some of us it has meant, waiting for the sun to dip behind the hill before stacking hay.

For the Freedom Rangers, our meat birds, it means some early morning grazing, before the sun is high in the sky and brutal.

This morning as we went to move them forward, a group of birds were busy grazing on some comfrey leaves and flowers. Just a little reminder of the diversity they get as we move them on pasture.

Extra good news, these birds are growing well and we will have fresh chicken at some point in mid-July!

And it seems it is turtle egg laying season! The painted turtle is back trying to lay eggs near the house. Me, I’d have stayed in the pond and waited till next week.
