…he heels of Dennis & Bonnie dropping off Basil & Lilly, two of their goats coming for a date with Boss Babar the new Boar Buck. (how’s that for alliteration!) They are all up in the front fields getting used to their new home.   Immediately following those arrivals, we said our first goodbyes to some of the goat kids that were born on farm this spring and to some of the pigs that arrived from other farms to graze, root and grow on our farm. Until…

Rocking Seychelles

…oup of hatcheries in Pennsylvania that includes the folks where we get our Freedom Ranger meat birds. They maintain their own breeding flocks and we’ve been consistently impressed with the quality of the chicks we get from them. There are 2, ok maybe 3, really notable characteristics of this group of hens. Finding Gratitude

…y for the winter that has actually already begun, we take a few moments to highlight some of our gratefuls. It seems that ASC, Agriculture Supporting Communities, also happens. At last week’s Taco Night and Scrag Mountain Music concert, several people expressed their role in the evening, saying, “Thank you for being here” and “Thank you for op…

On the Move

…Boston to meet folks and introduce them to our farm. Hoping that some will come TO the farm in the future.   While we can pack them up heirloom tomatoes and our Localvore Bloody Mary Mix, we can’t take the goats for Lattes on the Hoof, nor the new piglets for folks to gaze at, nor the full range of fresh veggies coming in from the field. And we can’t bring the full package of seeing great food growing in our beautiful spot in Vermont.   For those…

Heavenly, Hyper-local and perhaps even Highfalutin’!

…Even Vermonters have grown distant from real food. Busy with contemporary commitments, we still cherish certain local foods but they are few and often relegated to special occasions. Knowledge and confidence in cooking and relevant skills have atrophied. Even those of us committed to buying local and cooking regularly get caught in ruts making the same old dishes. The Floating Bridge Food and Farms Cooperative aim to “bridge” this gap, bringing m…

…e fast approaching! We will need a naming scheme for 2015! Start any ideas coming! We have gotten a chance to dig more into our soil health and nutrient management practices and with the latest focus on the health of Lake Champlain and agriculture’s impact, we are thrilled to have our strong grazing, cover cropping and overall ecological footprint. Also have gotten to read a few good articles…thanks to a bit of downtime and Twitter, who knew! A fe…
